Pocket Day and Colors

This week we participated in pocket and color activities.

On Monday, it was Pocket Day in Kindergarten.  We counted and graphed how many pockets each person was wearing.  Nathan had 13 pockets on his clothes and that was the most.  The students brought something in their pockets to share.  They gave us a clue about the item, and we took several guesses to see if we could figure out what was in the pocket.  We then made a class book titled, Pocket, Pocket, What's in Your Pocket?

Our focus letter was P.  The students came up with many words that begin with the sound of P.  We made a P pocket by lacing up a construction paper pocket.  Lacing is an excellent way to build our fine motor skills.

We also participated in many activities about colors.  We made people with rainbow hair using different kinds of lines for the hair.  We read and illustrated our new mini book for the week, Orange is an Orange.  And on Friday we read the book, Mary Wore Her Red Dress, which is a great book to chant.  We chanted the book using our own names and clothes:

"Alan wore his green shirt, green shirt, green shirt.  Alan wore his green
                   shirt all day long."

Then we made a class book.

In math, we continue to practice our counting skills.  This is an area that can be easily practiced at home.  Have your child count spoons, hangers in the closet, books, toys, Legos, or whatever is available.   We are also practicing writing our numbers 0 - 6.

Our nursery rhyme is Peas Porridge Hot.  Click on the link to share the video with your child.

This week our unit is All About Me.  Students should know their personal information - address, phone number and parents' names.
