Halloween

During our bear unit, we read the book, A Hunting We Will Go.   For Halloween this week, we made our own class book, A Haunting We Will Go.

Ivan says that "We'll catch a bat and put him in a hat".

     We made these cute skeletons.

We read the book, Where's My Mummy.  Together we completed a chart with the frame, "When I'm scared, my mommy _____."  This helped us make connections to complete our own frame.  The best part was making our own Baby Mummy.

We wrote our first book!  We titled our book, I See.  While writing the books, our authors practiced creating text, sounding out words, locating words in the room and copying them for their story, letter formation and illustrations.  They are very proud of their books, and I am proud of work they accomplished on the first book they authored and illustrated.

In our centers this week, we wrote and illustrated Halloween words, counted and added the number of spiders on webs, made pumpkins at the art center,  used Halloween stamps to create different patterns and played with Halloween game boards.

Many of our parents were able to join us for our Halloween party Wednesday afternoon.  We wore our costumes, and we had many spooky treats to eat.  We played the game, Monster Stomp which is like musical chairs but played with giant monster feet.

In math, we started a new unit on patterns.  We have been making patterns with many different kinds of math manipulatives.  In the book, The Sultan's Snakes, the snakes have different patterns on them.  We read the book and then made our own Sultan snakes.
