Scarecrows

This week our theme was scarecrows.  To start our theme, we read the book, The Little Old Lady Who was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams.

Our mini book was I'm Not Afraid of Anything!  We wrote a class book with the frame, "I am not afraid of ______."  We also wrote and illustrated our own book, I'm Not Afraid.  The students are making fantastic strides in their writing.  They are spelling sight words and sounding out words.

These are cute scarecrows that we made.  After making the scarecrows, the students drew crows on the page.  Then they completed the sentence, I (see) (the number of crows) crows.  For example, Alan wrote, "I see 1 crow."  We glued the sentence strips onto our paper.

We traced our hand to make the wings on these crows.

Because they were invading our pumpkin patch, we had to make scarecrows to scare the crows away.

Patterns

Our class continued to work on patterns in math.  We read the book, Beep, Beep, Vroom, Vroom, and created different kinds of directional patterns with toy cars.  Another book was Pattern Fish, and we drew patterns on our own fish.
